Flashes Ladies Capture First BCSL Freedom Divisional Title

In a reversal of fates, the Lady Flashes won this years BCSL Divisional Meet while the Flashes Guys took second. Just the opposite of last years results. Led by a strong contingent of young talent, the Lady Tracksters outdistanced the nearest competitor (Riverside) by 24 points compiling 145 points to their 121. Leading the way for the Flashes Gals were sophomore Emily Ivins (first place in the 800 and 3,200 meters and anchor on the 2nd place 4X400 relay), Freshman Sarah Muchowski (first place javelin, first place 1,600 meters, second place high jump and 4X400 relay) and junior Talaya Loran (first place long jump, second place 100 meters, 200 meters and 4X400 relay)

On the guys side, it was the sprinters and throwers carrying the brunt of the weight as Kevin Linico, Joe Price and Marcus Rawls posted first, second and fourth in the 100 meters and first, third and fourth in the 200 meters. Matt Belcher and Matt Lovenduski were first and third in the high hurdles, Chris Salaga and Tyler Foer went second and third in the javelin and John Allen was first in the discus and second in the shot put

Youngsters lead Lady Flashes Tracksters to First place finish.

Last year, it was senior Anna Cook that took the girls team on her back to a second place finish in the divisionals. This year Freshman Sarah Muchowski Sophomores Emily Ivins and Kelly Brickowski and Junior Talaya Loran supplied the backbone to carry the team to its first divisional title. Kelly took second place in both the 1,600 and 3,200 meters. Also scoring points for the Lady Flashes were Liz Shaffer first place discus, Jessica Domiano first place intermediate hurdles,Jasmine Singleton third place shot put and Claudia Shaffer third place javelin. The Flashes Lady Tracksters captured nine of sixteen first places on their way to their first ever Divisional title. Showing their veritility, the Flashes Gals put together an imprompto team for the 4X400 relay that finished second behind Palmyra's best. Junior sprinter Talaya Loran (who had just finished running second in the 200 meter finals) was the lead off runner, Jessica Domiano (first in the intermediate hurdles) ran the second leg, Sarah Muchowski (1,600 meter winner) ran the third leg and 3,200 meter winner Emily Ivins was the Anchor. This quartet had never ran together before but they managed  to provide the Palmyra team some excellent competition, even leading for the first two laps.

The only other Flashes guy to medal was Greg Gonzales, with a second place in the high jump. Conspicuiously absent was the non placement in both the long and triple jump and the 400 meters, traditional Flashes strong events. Placing in these events could have meant a repeat of the championship for the Guys also.
